Saegis Undergraduate Research Symposium – 2025

Saegis Undergraduate Research Symposium (SURS) 2025 is the 3rd Undergraduate Research Symposium organized by the Saegis Campus, Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Canterbury Christ Church University, United Kingdom which is to be held at the campus premises. SURS 2025 provides a common platform to unify researchers from all corners of the world and to present their research insights.

SURS 2025 is intended to facilitate undergraduate students who believe that they should play a key role in producing impactful research and improving the quality of research.

Under the theme “Innovating Beyond Boundaries: Creating Intelligent Solutions for a Digitally Connected Tomorrow,” SURS 2025 assumes the pivotal role of a guiding compass, steering scholars, innovators, and industry leaders through this dynamic terrain. By providing a platform for collaboration and exchange of insights, SURS 2025 aims to equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the complexities of the digital age effectively.

Dr. Nuwan Gunarathne
Department of Accounting
University of Sri Jayewardenepura,Sri Lanka.


Dr. Nuwan Gunarathne holds the position of Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accounting at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka. He is also the Director of the Research Center for Management Studies and Commerce at the same university. He is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka and a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accounting (UK). Dr. Gunarathne earned his doctorate in corporate sustainability and sustainability accounting from Griffith University, Australia. He also possesses an MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) in Sri Lanka and a Business Administration degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka.
Dr Gunarathne’s extensive scholarly work includes authoring and co-authoring more than 80 national and international publications across diverse domains, including sustainability accounting, corporate sustainability, waste management, and accounting education. Dr. Gunarathne has presented papers in Finland, Australia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Germany, Vietnam, Thailand, China, and South Korea.
Dr. Gunarathne has lent his expertise as a consultant on various projects, which encompass education, waste management and sustainable agriculture. He has gained international experience by serving as a Senior Research Assistant at Griffith Business School, Australia, contributing to the Blue Economy project, and as a Research Assistant in projects funded by UNESCO (Australia). He also shared his knowledge as a Sessional Lecturer at Griffith Business School, Australia. He is a committee member of the Environmental and Sustainability Management Accounting Network (EMAN) Asia Pacific (AP) and representative of the Sri Lanka Chapter of EMAN-AP.
Dr. Gunarathne is a sought-after resource person, and he has graced more than 45 workshops, seminars, webinars, and conferences as a Keynote Speaker, Panelist, and Moderator. His commitment to research excellence has garnered him over 20 prestigious national and international awards. Recently, he was awarded three Presidential Awards for Scientific Research for his research work.

Dr Katy Warden is Deputy Director of Partnerships and Senior Lecturer at Christ Church Business School, Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU), where she has been a member of the academic team since 2012. She also serves as Academic Link Tutor for Saegis Campus in Sri Lanka and Nanyang Institute of Management in Singapore.
Dr Warden oversees the academic provision of CCCU courses delivered through collaborative partners, supporting more than 20,000 students across the UK and internationally. She is responsible for monitoring partner performance, managing academic quality assurance, and ensuring regulatory compliance. A key part of her role includes the onboarding of both international and domestic academic partners, ensuring alignment with CCCU’s academic standards and strategic priorities.
With extensive experience in postgraduate course design, Dr Warden previously served as Course Director for CCCU’s MSc International Business and MBA International programmes. She brings particular expertise in curriculum development, teaching team leadership, timetabling, and student supervision.
Her dedication to enhancing the student experience has been widely recognised. She has received multiple nominations for CCCU’s Golden Apple Awards and was awarded the 2022 CCCU Staff Recognition Award for Most Outstanding Contribution to Student Experience.
Dr Warden is also an active researcher, with interests in sustainability, internationalisation, social entrepreneurship, leadership, and international student experience—especially in relation to student belonging, identity, and transition. She remains closely engaged with national and international higher education developments through a range of academic networks and forums, ensuring her work remains current, impactful, and student-centred.
